


Hostel Facilities
The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and all the facilities have been chosen
and designed to meet the special needs of students from rural areas in Victoria,
the city of Melbourne, and overseas.

Bedrooms
There are 36 individual rooms furnished with single bed (no linen supplied),
a wardrobe and a study desk with chair. Heating is provided for each room.
Laundry
The
laundry is equipped with coin-operated washing machines and dryers. A
laundry trough and an outdoor clothes line are available. Ironing
facilities and a vacuum cleaner are available for resident's use.
Dining Room
There is a dining room area with self-serve breakfast and lunch facilities.
The evening meal is prepared by a qualified chef offering a 4 week cycle menu
which offers one selection per night. There are no facilities for
self-catering on a regular basis. There are facilities for snacks and
coffee making, including a fridge and microwave.
Lounge/Recreation Areas
There is a large heated recreation room with two full size snooker tables, table tennis and gym equipment. There are two lounge areas equipped with TV, Foxtel and video/DVD. A swimming pool and tennis/soccer/basketball court are available to residents and shared with youth from the Don Bosco Youth Centre, adjoined to the Hostel facility.
Study Facilities
There is a study room, equipped with three computers connected to a server and the internet. A printer, scanner and photo copier are provided at no charge. Each room also has an internet connection with a free 1Gb download per month.
Public Transport
Tram 19 stops at the Hostel front door on Sydney Road and travels directly to the City (RMT City Campus), taking 25 minutes, passing Melboune University on the way. Anstey rail station on the Upfield line is only 500 metres away. A bus service along Albion Street allows for access to La Trobe University and RMIT Bundoora Campus.
Push Bikes
There is a secure bike storage rack available for those who want to store and use their own personal push bikes. There are a number of bike tracks close by, including a ride along Merri Creek, beside the Upfield railway line and a short ride to a bike-only lane on Royal Parade.
Chaplain
A Catholic Chaplain living with a religious community is on site is available. There is opportunity to continue or explore personal Christian formation.
Shopping
Brunswick market and shopping centre is within walking distance and a 24 hour supermarket, K-Mart and other shops are nearby. Sydney Road and local area generally offers a cosmopolitan feel. There are restaurants such as Turkish, Thai, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and African and no, not to mention the many cafes in the area. Brunswick Library and the Brunswick City Baths and Gym are 10 minutes walking distance.
Residents' Telephone
There is a coin-operated gold phone on site which can also receive incoming calls.
Support
The Hostel provides a 24 hour supervisor for duty of care and for security reasons.
